Bad Week

There are weeks that suck. On Friday it rained through the roof of my apartment. Had to relocate. Twice. On Monday I had a small car accident. A car bumped into me when I had to stop because the driver in front of me hit the break at a traffic light. On Tuesday I got a phone call that a close family member has died. A bad week.

California

I'm in Mountain View, California for a couple of weeks. Here are the pictures.




The beach is a 30min drive from my apartment.

And the last picture was last Sunday afternoon. The guy at the keyboard is a colleague who besides being an excellent software engineer is a semi-professional musician and a top long distance runner (his record time for marathon is around 2:15h). The Sunday was really cool: A big mix of people (from teenagers to an at least 80 year old guy) were dancing to latino music and having a really good time:

Zermatt II

Monday. Arrival. Search the hotel. Short walk around the town. Hopefully the weather stays good.
Tuesday. Gornergrat (3089m) - Gornergletscher - Zermatt. The walk back was longer than expected since one path was closed. Saw Steinboecke. Arrived around 6pm in the hotel.
Wednesday. Unterrothorn (3103m) - Oberrothorn (3415m) - Blauherd - Fluealp - Blauherd. We took the wrong path and didn't immediately find Fluealp. But from Blauherd it was easy. Beautiful view from Oberrothorn, but it was quite cold and windy.
Thursday. Slow day. Zermatt - Gornerschlucht - Zum See - Zermatt.
Friday. Zermatt - Trift - Hoehenbalmen (2741m) - Zmutt - Zermatt.
Saturday. Zermatt - Taesch - Zermatt. There was Almabtrieb where the cows return to the village from the mountains. Nice little not touristy celebration.
Sunday. Schwarzsee (2580m) - Hoernlihuette (3260m) - Zmutt - Zermatt.
Monday. Zermatt - Tuften Alp - Blauherd - Sunegga - Zermatt. Marmotes.
Tuesday. Kleines Matterhorn (3883m) - Breithorn (4164m) - Kleines Matterhorn.
Wednesday. Schwarzsee - Gandeghuette - Trockener Steg.

Vacation in Zermatt

I'm in Zermatt right now. Arrived on Monday with a friend. After miserable weather in Zurich the sun greeted us quite friendly and the Matterhorn mountain was really impressive. So far we did two easy tours, one which led us to a glacier (Gornergletscher), the first I've seen in my life, the other one to a quite high peak (Oberrothorn, 3415m). Views are spectacular here around every other corner.

Wedding in Hannover

This weekend I was in Hannover for a friend's wedding. Got a nice flight at Friday 9pm, was at Hannover central station around 11pm, but then took a wrong train and ended up having to take a cab for the hotel. Then it was fun: Nice guest, thoughtful wedding ceremony in a beautiful church, great garden party with lots of delicious food. Return home on Sunday afternoon.

Picknick and Swimming

Another weekend. Since it was hot I spent most of the time at the lake. On Saturday at a family place with some organized swimming and special ashtrays so smokers would not mess up the grass (picture). In the evening I did barbecue at a friend's place.
On early, early Sunday morning friends arrived who'll spend the next two weeks vacation in Switzerland. We had a great breakfast picknick at the lake and then did a minimal city tour.

Around noon the friends left for their main destination and I went, after a short rest, to the lake again. This time to an unguarded place with no ashtrays and a slightly younger crowd.
